We are seeking an experienced Drainlayer Foreman to oversee and coordinate the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of drainage systems. This is a hands-on leadership role involving the supervision of a crew, ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards, and liaising closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

The Drainlayer Foreman will supervise and lead drainage crews in their daily site operations, ensuring all work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard. They will read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and drainage plans to guide the team and oversee the installation of stormwater, wastewater, and drinking water infrastructure.

The role involves ensuring compliance with all project specifications, environmental standards, and health and safety regulations. The foreman will train, mentor, and direct crew members on correct techniques and safe work practices, while regularly inspecting completed work to ensure functionality and adherence to engineering standards. They will also coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to resolve any on-site issues quickly and effectively. In addition, maintaining accurate daily records of work performed, materials used, and manpower is a key part of the role.

  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, environmental regulations, and safety requirements.

  • Train and mentor crew members to maintain high quality and safety standards.

  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and contractors to address site issues.

  • Maintain accurate daily records of site activity.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience in drainage, civil, or utility construction.

  • Certified Drainlayer ticket preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of Three Waters, earthworks, and underground utilities.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and plans.

  • Solid leadership qualities, strong work ethic, and teamwork skills.

  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.

  • Proficient in using drainage-related equipment (e.g. excavators, pipe lasers, specialist tools).

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Valid driver’s license, with WTR and Class 2 endorsements preferred.

  • Must have full working rights in New Zealand.
